Ashurst advises Carillion Construction on next phase of Rochdale BSF programme

Ashurst has advised Carillion Construction Limited as sponsor in relation to a further phase of the Rochdale Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. This phase involved the refurbishment, design, construction, maintenance and financing of Falinge Park High School and Wardle High School, Rochdale. A £38 million term loan, £3.5 million equity bridge and £700,000 debt service reserve facilities were provided by Aviva Public Private Finance Limited.

Ashurst has previously advised Carillion Construction Limited in relation to the first phase of the Rochdale BSF project, which involved the design, construction, maintenance and financing of Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College and the design construction and maintenance of Siddal Moor Sports College. 

The Ashurst team was led by energy, transport and infrastructure partner Philip Vernon, with partner Patrick Boyle, counsel David Cave, associates Yassira Zaandam, Barbara Walshe and Laura Green and trainee solicitors Lucy Archer and Robin Watson assisting. Senior associate David Razzell advised on real estate matters.

Maclay Murray & Spens acted as legal adviser to Aviva on the finance documents and Appleyards was technical adviser to Aviva. Bevan Brittan acted as legal adviser and Ernst & Young acted as financial adviser to Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
