EU and competition law department

The EU and competition law department is one of the leading practices in Europe and advises on competition law, trade and regulatory law and legal aspects of the internal market. We work with the European Commission, the European Parliament and national competition authorities to provide a high level of strategic advice. In addition, we have extensive experience in advocacy and the conduct of cases before the European Court of First Instance and European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, as well as administrative proceedings before the European Commission.

As well as having a leading practice in EC merger control, including many Phase I and Phase II cases settled with undertakings, public procurement, state aid law, cartels, abuse of a dominant position, and trade law (anti-dumping, WTO), we also offer specialist advice on national (Belgian, French, German, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Swedish and UK) competition law issues.

Belgian law department

The Belgian law department is headed by Carl Meyntjens and has grown rapidly in recent years through a selective process of lateral hires and an aggressive expansion of the client base in Belgium and elsewhere. Our Belgian lawyers are all members of the Brussels Bar and provide specialised advice in M&A, private equity, corporate finance, capital markets, Belgian competition law, corporate restructuring, commercial law, intellectual property, employment law and real estate.

The Belgian law team is recognised as a top end provider of legal services and has represented clients in a number of major transactions in Belgium in recent years including in the first public to private transaction and the largest buy-out to date in Belgium's financial history.

We work closely with our other European offices on complex cross-border transactions. Our clients include Belgian and international companies, private equity companies, investment banks and financial institutions.
