Julian is a partner in the Brussels office and leads the Competition
and EU law department in Brussels. He specialises in EC and UK
competition law and has been involved in a large number of leading
EC and UK merger cases, most recently Terra/Kemira, P&O/Stena
and P&O/Brittany Ferries (UK Competition Commission
references), Arsenal/DSM, BHP/Rio Tinto, Guinness/GrandMet,
Skanska/Scancem, Kvaerner/Ahlstrom, Metso/Svedala, Telia/Telenor
Metso/Kvaerner (all Phase II cases), Cookson/Foseco,
Manitowoc/Enodis, Apax/Capio, Yara/Kemira, Case/New Holland and
Vodafone/AirTouch (all EC Phase I cases with undertakings). Julian
Ellison and his team were awarded the Legal Business Competition
Team of the Year (1999) for the Case/New Holland merger clearance.
In addition, Julian's practice includes leading cases in transport,
telecommunications, cartels, public procurement and state aids both
at national and EC level and before the national and European
Courts of Justice. His publications include The Legal Control of
Mergers (Blackstones) and Joint Ventures in Europe (Butterworths).
