Gonzalo is managing partner of the Madrid office and head of its international finance department. He specialises in banking, finance and capital markets, project finance and communications. He also has particular experience in energy, transport and infrastructure, arbitration, administrative and sports law.

Gonzalo is a state lawyer (Abogado del Estado) and prior to joining Ashurst, was  General Counsel and Regional Counsel for Southern Europe at BT Ignite España. Gonzalo was also head of legal at the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (the Spanish state financial agency) and deputy head of legal at the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (the Spanish financial markets regulator).
